WHAT IS FLOW?
Flow is a Positive Cognitive State
where you are immersed in an activity
with a deep level of attention and satisfaction.
A 10-year McKinsey study found that FLOW made
people Five Times (500%) more Productive
Some describe Flow as: “being in the zone" “hyper-focus” or“lost in the moment”
at CURRENTS we describe Flow as “Being in the Current”— being totally engaged in the energy, stream, and presence of your work. It is a state of well-being.
Flow State was researched and named by the Hungarian-American psychologist and happiness researcher, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi who revealed that what makes an experience genuinely satisfying is a state of consciousness called he called “Flow.” During Flow, people typically experience deep enjoyment, creativity, and a total involvement with life. He discovered that this state can be cultivated, not just left to chance, and as a result we can discover true happiness and greatly improve the quality of our lives.

WHY IS FLOW GOOD FOR TEAMS?

Research shows that Flow is the key to engagement. Flow increases meaning, lowers stress and increases productivity. Flow helps people do better work.
A 10-year study conducted by McKinsey showed that Flow directly increases a sense of meaning at work. Lack of meaning drives most performance issues. Increased meaning fuels peak performance to an exponential degree.

“In all our studies of extreme performance improvement,” says John Hagel, co-founder of Deloitte’s Center for the Edge, “the people and organizations who covered the most distance in the shortest time were always the ones who were tapping into passion and finding flow.”

WHY LEARN FLOW FROM MUSICIANS?

ANYONE can achieve Flow.
a MUSICIAN is the best person to teach it.
CURRENTS approach to achieving Flow State is based on the unique experience and skills used by musicians in their culture of practice, teamwork, performance, inspiration, and production.
Our Work is Our Wellness
Musicians live for our work. We love what we do and we feel unwell when we are not doing it. Music is “played” for a reason. We know that we have to feel good to do good. We create work practices that generate a sense of wellness so we can continue to do our work every day of our lives for as long as we can. We know how to make even the most challenging work an act of pure joy.
Musicians Know Flow
Research on Flow State is often conducted on musicians. Why? Because musicians regularly enter Flow State during practice, composition, and performance. We can identify it. We know what it requires.

Musicians know Engagement
Music is “played” not “worked” why? Because musicians know that work has to be enjoyed to keep everyone engaged. Every musician creates a culture around their music which infuses the creative process, recording studio, shows and products with a dynamic energy that people want to be a part of. We are all about engagement.
Musicians Know Teams
Musicians work individually and collectively to create, produce, and perform, in bands, orchestras, duos, and solo, alone, in studio settings and with an audience. This requires a wide range of communication skills. Because we often have to earn money outside of music-related work, musicians also have team skills and experience in a wide range of work environments. We also understand that products and delivery need to be relatable, engaging, memorable and fun.
Musicians Know Companies because
Musicians combine Creative, Organizational, and Market mindsets
Musicians, especially in today's economy, have to know how to work solo and in teams to create marketable products that communicate original ideas and captivate an audience. Many of us operate as our own small company with team members, staff and contractors, budgets, deadlines, deliverables, dependencies, sales, profit and loss, customer satisfaction, reviews, and ALL the elements and pressures that go into putting product into the world. We know that it takes strength, courage, creativity, plus teamwork and individual effort all of which benefit from Flow.
We got this. Let us show you how.
